This was actually said to me a few years back. The lady who said it truly liked me and didn't say it to be mean. She passed away a couple of weeks ago. I wish I didn't have this memory of her, but sadly I do.

Unfortunate that people can express themselves in such a shallow way. How little regard they have for feelings and consequences they can inflict.
You wonder what problem they have to carry, to unload it onto another..?
I agree with Suana - and wonder sometimes if people like that really don't think at all, before they speak. Not only in order to be considerate, but I also wonder what makes people think their opinion is the over-glowing truth, and that they have been set here to speak it.
Anyway - I like your illo, the sad look is spot-on, and the colours are wonderful.
This is such an expressive piece of art. I love the colors and textures. As the previous posters stated, people don't think before they speak and as a result inadvertently say hurtful things. This piece reminds us to think before we speak.

Carrying around that memory is heavy. I'm glad you were able to turn it into something beautiful as a work of art.
It is a wonderful piece of art, and I can relate to those words, and the armour that you have to put up against them.
You're such a positive person for one, realizing that she was simply insensitive and not trying to be mean, and two for turning the hurt into a beautiful piece of expressive art. I hope creating it helped to exorcise that memory so you can remember the good things about her.
Oh, my goodness - how dense can people be?! I am sorry this happened to you. You have created a poignant piece that many of us "feel". Now run her off the road the next time you see her!
I definately remember the good things about her. I honestly think it was her generation, but not only that, she was painfully tiny all of her life, so anyone with a bit of meat on their bones seemed enormous to her. I wasn't that heavy when she said this :) Since she recently passed, I continue send her blessings.
This is a "heavy" illustration. There is so many ways that people could take a message from it from their own experience. Beautifully done.

My mother used to say the same thing to me. I truly think that people DO not think. They think that what they say - will help us loose weight OR whatever. It is truly thoughtlessnes on their part. Lucy
