Backwards

This is in response to Illustration Friday's prompt, "backwards."

At The Monterey Bay Aquarium they have this awesome overhead exhibit of sardines swimming in circles above your head. It's like one continuous silver streak that shimmers and moves. There's always a fish or two somewhere in the group trying to go the other way. But who's to say who's going backwards, the majority of the swimmers, or the minority?

Good question and great work--love getting caught up here!

Love this painting- for some reason makes me think of illustration from 1950's or 60's.

I was thinking the same thing today about 'backwards' being subjective(?)

This is actually a very calming piece for me! I love it when fish zig and zag in silver streaks. I like your brushstrokes, too!

Great concept! Perhaps that one brave sardine is the only one that isn't about to swim into the net. Swim on you salty little rebel.

The sardine exhibit sounds like fun.

Hi Lolo,

I'm a big moleskine's fan and I'm so glad to see you're posting your sketches here. I love all of these especially 'sad umbrella guy' and that wonderful elephant!

cheers,

Dave
